A Round Of Silence

This program is a workshop/playshop round of golf.  The first phase of the program prepares the golfer's mind and body to engage in flow and rhythm. The second phase is to incorporate this flow and rhythm while playing nine holes of golf in silence.

What is the significance of playing in total silence?

When we watch television with the sound turned off we immediately become more aware of the picture and flow of movements. For example, the movie “Blade Runner” has two versions: one with Harrison Ford dialoging in his mind.  The other version is the Director’s Cut during which you don’t hear Dekard’s mental chatter. Watching the movie in this way brings us into a deeper visual experience of the movie; it affects our perception. This perception shift is what is offered to the golfer--to experience a less mental, more experiential—and ultimately, more spiritually enhanced, game of golf.

The golfer’s mind is engaged by first emphasizing what tightens and restricts the mind and body. Then, through a series of slow movement exercises based on Tai Chi and Chi Kung principals, he learns how to apply a new form of rhythm and flow to her game. The intent is to open and release any blocked areas that are restricting the flow of energy.  The result is an enhanced and more enjoyable game, and a more relaxed day on the course.
